Eye Cream Buyers Guide
Thanks for reading the eye cream reviews. Here is a quick overview of how I review eye creams. Occasionally, my sister and the rest of the family gets involved in the eye cream review process and we compare notes. However, I’m the self-proclaimed product expert that spent thousands of dollars on products which led me to create this website in the first place.
Of course, I test the products for their effects on our skin first and foremost. If the product gets results, of course it is a step in the right direction. But, with so many fly-by-night companies out there making lofty guarantees, you really have to keep in mind other factors when buying an eye care product. Should there be an issue, such as a skin irritation, a damaged product, or just a simple question – what do you know about this company? How do you contact them? At the end of the day, most products do work in some shape or form, so it’s best to move forward with a company you can depend on to be there in the future, who answers your questions and concerns, and makes the products you buy in sanitary conditions. Here are a few things we keep in mind when we move forward with a product recommendation.
Where was the eye cream made? Can I find information on the manufacturing facility?
I recommend buying products made in the USA. There are many reasons I urge eye cream buyers to follow this advice. Here are a few important reasons that you should keep in mind.
- The USA has strict health codes. Not only do manufacturing plants have mandatory inspections by the FDA, but the employees operating the machinery need to be certified. The FDA, along with State Health Boards, often check up on facilities to make sure they are meeting all guidelines. Plants not abiding by health codes and not passing inspections are sanctioned, and even closed down if they are not deemed satisfactory. Furthermore, employees are enrolled in continued education, ensuring they are up to speed on all new regulations and policies. Most countries are very relaxed in this regard. Even first world countries like Canada. Why is this important, you ask? The reason is even the tiniest sliver of bacteria can ruin an entire batch of any skin care cream or product. Think about how much dirt and bacteria you come in contact with on a daily basis. Do you want to trust a product you apply under your eyes that is made in unsanitary conditions?
- Due diligence. If a company makes a product in the USA, you can look them up. With all of the tools the Internet provides us, you can look up anyone. If you really want to dig, you can ask for licensing and registration numbers. If the company cannot provide this, or provides false information to you, you should have your red flag waived high! Lastly, a USA-made product gives you a world of items you can check out if you do some quick research.
- You can trust the correct amount of ingredients are being applied to the final product. Manufacturing plants that reside in the USA are playing with fire if they decide to “ramp up” a concentration of an ingredient in order to try to induce better results. They can get in hot water if they are caught by any governing body. This is serious as too much retinol, for example, could make a product prescription strength. Obviously, prescriptions are written for reasons. In the end, concentration levels were made strict to protect consumers. Of course, a high concentration of an ingredient may cause irritation, burning, or extreme dryness. Can you afford to trust your skin to a product made under lax safety restrictions?
Does the company marketing the product have any complaints online?
Check places like RipoffReport.com. Websites like RipoffResport.com and others document consumer complaints for the public to see. Search for the company you are looking at buying from. Of course, any company that services many people is bound to have some customers who were not satisfied. However, if there is an overwhelming amount of complaints out there, you should make mental note of that. Did the company handle the complaint properly, or were they rude to the customer lodging the complaint?
What Are the Prominent Ingredients in the Eye Cream?
I don’t encourage judging books by their covers, but normally I’m able to judge eye creams effectively by reading the ingredients they contain. Of course, there is a disclaimer we will throw out with that blanket statement, but unless you are comparing apples to oranges that statement usually holds it’s water.
An example of a situation in when ingredients don’t always make the final decision easy follows……
Most eye creams that claim to treat eye wrinkles contain hyaluronic acid, for example. It’s a great ingredient that most eye cream marketers will agree works very effectively in most concentrations. So, if you visit your neighborhood convenience mart and see an eye cream for $15.99 that makes bold proclamations, how do you know it is effective? Will it work as good as an eye cream selling for say $159.99 with the same prominent ingredients?
This is where it can get tricky. Keep in mind that we know that eye creams have to have a base of about 50% water. The rest of the formula can be broken down in many ways. What we can tell you about the difference in price in this example is 99% likely to be tied to the amount of hyaluronic acid each product contains. While the cheaper version probably has a sliver of this ingredient, the expensive version probably has a good portion.
Getting back on track to the point we started to make, proper ingredients make or break the success you will have with any eye cream. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, matrixyl 3000, acai berry, resveratrol, and peptides come with a price. This is because they are well-researched ingredients that are proven to work. These ingredients, when mixed properly (in the USA, preferably!), will work much better than any snake oil mixed up with unidentifiable ingredients. Stick with what you know and with what research and clinical studies back up, and you will see results. Deviate and buy an eye cream made from subpar ingredients in less than sanitary conditions, and you will be let down.\
I have done the research. I have spoke to the makers of many products out there. I have concluded it is simply not feasible to sell an eye cream for $15.99, remain profitable, and show the customers significant results that will keep them coming back each month to buy more. Billions of dollars is spent on research and development in this multi-billion dollar anti-aging industry. Sometimes, you do get what you pay for.
Can You Find a Way to Contact the Company?
If a company has no method of contact on their website, it’s time to move on. It’s always preferred to order from a company with a phone number well-advertised on the website. In the case you have an issue with the product, you need to be able to get someone on the phone who you can speak to. Companies that resort to email to face their customers and do not allow phone contact have no backbone!
Is a Guarantee Offered on the Eye Cream?
When you have an issue with a product that didn’t work out as you expected, it’s always good to address it promptly. If the company offers a guarantee and you act in accordance to that guarantee, they will usually handle the issue in a positive manner. If you spend hundreds of dollars on a product, it’s nice to at least have some type of assurance that it will work for you. When companies put their money where their mouth is, it gives the notion that the company has confidence that it will work for the customer.
